Being close to the sea, Prestwick has one of the finest bays in the UK, known as Prestwick Bay, and made by the neighborhood Pow Burn. Prestwick has been the centre of Scotland's aviation industry from the 1930s, and houses has the Royal Navy Air Station, which is a base of sea king search and rescue helicopters, popularly known as HMS Gannet. This air station continues to hold a large number of US military flights though it is no longer the air base of the United States.

Prestwick also has a long esplanade running parallel to firth of Clyde, which holds a playground for kids and a long path in which to take a refreshing walk. Culzean Castle, built between 1777 and 1792 by Robert Adam. is another attraction, as is the Country Park, which is Scotland's first country park and stretches around 200 hectares over the cliffs above the sea, about 12 miles south west of Ayr.
