From cultural accolades to musical history being revisited and who can forget, the upcoming Eurovision hosting, the city is showing no signs of slowing down. If you have never visited Liverpool, now is the time.

The Beatles

In 2022, Liverpool celebrated 60 years since Scouse icons, The Beatles, released their first debut single. Released in October 1962, ‘Love Me Do’, was part of this historic bands conception to stardom. Despite only peaking at number 17 in the UK charts that year, it reached top spot in America, New Zealand and Australia.

The Beatles went on to achieved worldwide fame, releasing 12 studio albums between 1963 and 1970. It is thought that they have sold upwards of 600 million albums all over the world, and that number continues to rise each year as their fame did not dwindle when the band itself did.

Fans can take a trip down memory lane by visiting The Beatles Story, located near the Liverpool docks. Here you are taken on a journey through the life and times of The Beatles, with authentic memorabilia, replicas of Abbey Road Studios and much more. This is a great attraction for the whole family, whether you are an original fan of the band or are being newly introduced to them.

European Capital of Culture

Each year, a European city is honoured with the title of being Europe’s ‘Capital of Culture’. This accolade notices the widespread cultural impact the city has had during that year, from welcoming in diversity, furthering development and creating a sense of community. In 2008, Liverpool was awarded this title, proving that it is a big hitter amongst even the grandest of European cities.

This year stands as 15-years since Liverpool was named Capital of Culture for the whole of Europe, so why not make your visit during this historic year? Everyone is welcome, everyone is celebrated and everyone is guaranteed to have the best time.

Eurovision 2023

Last year saw Ukraine win the Eurovision Song Contest, however, due to concerns over safety due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the 67th edition of the show will now be hosted in Liverpool. The UK came in second place, with the most points we have ever received (466) which prompted organisers to decide that the UK should host on behalf of the winners.

A shortlist of host cities was created, but ultimately Liverpool came out on top. In May 2023, Europe will flock to this amazing city to enjoy a night of international music and performances. Tickets are not yet on sale, but it is sure to make this year even more of a historic year than it already seemed to be.
