We all love a good bit of seaside grub, and now is the perfect excuse to get down to the coast. National Fish and Chip Day is upon us, so what better way to celebrate it than going on a cheeky coastal weekend break and sampling some of the authentic fish from your favourite British areas. The event annually falls on the first Friday of June, so this years National Fish and Chip Day will be celebrated on 2nd June.
What is the history of National Fish and Chip Day?
This year will see the eighth annual National Fish and Chip Day, hosted by The National Edible Oil Distributor’s Association (NEODA). It sees people gather at popular fish and chip spots across the UK, in celebration of the tasty dish.
The day was created in 2015 when one of the finalists of the National Fish and Chip Awards brought up the idea of a day dedicated to the classic British meal. NEODA supported the idea and the very first National Fish and Chip Day was celebrated with an array of creative activities spread across social media.
According to NEODA, National Fish and Chip Day help to “secure [the meal’s] position in the eyes of both customers and the media as the nation’s favourite dish.”
Since it began, the day has garnered massive coverage, now having reached over 62 million people. National Fish and Chip Day has also been featured on shows such as BBC’s The One Show, ITV’s This Morning and even ITV’s Coronation Street.
