Best Places To Visit In Newcastle

Newcastle

There are over 60 amazing Britannia Hotels located across the length and breadth of the UK. This means that when you feel the need to go on holiday closer to home, you can go anywhere and know that your accommodation will be checked off.

Two of these brilliant hotels sit in the heart of Newcastle, a lively city with a variety of attractions just waiting for you to enjoy. Whether you visit with your family, your friends or even on your own, here are a list of some of the best places to hit up to make the most of your time here.

Angel of the North

Created in 1998, the Angel of the North is one of the most iconic sculptures in the world. It was created by Antony Gormley OBE, who is well-known for his artwork which is scattered across the globe.

The Angel of the North is 20 metres high and spans 54 metres wide. If it was put on its side, the sculpture would be taller than the Statue of Liberty! It has won multiple awards since its erection, notably being labelled as one of the ‘Wonders of Britain’ alongside Stonehenge and Big Ben.

Of course, you can just drive past the art, but getting up close to it is a whole other experience. This is thought to be the largest angel sculpture in the world, so be sure to take time out of your trip to fully bask in its glory.

Tyne Bridge

The Tyne Bridge is the most celebrated of the seven bridges that cross over the River Tyne. Linking Newcastle-upon-Tyne to Gateshead, this historic bridge was created in 1928 and was even opened by King George V.

The bridge is now an iconic landmark in Newcastle, located in what is now known as Quayside. Despite having a vast history, the bridge is probably best known now as being the bridge used in the Great North Run. During this event, some 52,000 runners pass over the bridge whilst there is a great, timed display by the Red Arrows.

You can get a stunning view of the whole city and the glorious Tyne river from standing on the actual bridge. As night falls, the city of Newcastle lights up and the views are even more breath-taking.
