What is the Edinburgh Fringe Festival?
Founded in 1947, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is almost a full month of explosive creativity and inspiration. Creatives from all over the world come together to show off their talents to the public, whether that is comedy, dance, spoken word, theatre, children's entertainment or even a circus act. The range is so wide that there is definitely something for everyone here.
This year's event will run from 4 - 28 August, mainly located around High Street. Many creatives stand on the streets of Edinburgh handing out flyers for their shows, so you need only walk outside and talk to people to find a show you can attend.
Many shows operate on the system of, paying for your appreciation. There is no set price for tickets, audiences simply arrive and are seated until the room is at capacity. If you, as the viewer, enjoy the show, you can give the performers as much or as little money as you feel necessary.
However, as it states on the official Fringe website, 'Street theatre is for everyone, so if you cannot afford to pay our performers... a simple "thank you" is also welcome.'
