Horse Racing is a thriving sport too here in Liverpool with races most weekends and one of the famous ones being the Grand National at Aintree Racecourse.
Haydock Park is also a popular track for the flat runs and national hunts.
The oldest races and most popular is Chester Races where you will find the discerning punters placing bets to the novices, hoping for that bit of luck - a great day out and only an hour away from Liverpool.
In September, Liverpool staged the Tour of Britain's showpiece finale event. The national cycle race traditionally ended in London but Liverpool will take the honours to coincide with the city being awarded the title of European Capital of Culture. This cycle race covers six stages which is almost 1,000 km.
